Stormy night on the Dutch coast

It was a stormy night in the coastal regions of the Netherlands on Sunday with a large number of trees blown over and branches torn off. The meteorological office reported winds gusting up to 80 and 100 kilometres per hour and between 25 and 35 millimetres of rain.

The fire brigade in the greater region of The Hague received around 250 reports of storm damage, mostly caused by trees blocking roads or hitting cars and buildings.

The storm also damaged roofs and neon signs.There were no reports of serious injuries.

A number of events had to be cancelled on Sunday, including the final of the 31st International Firework Festival in Scheveningen, the Vlissingen Maritime Festival and dragon boat races on the North Sea Canal.
