THE NETHERLANDS - Dutch Defence Minister Eimert van Middelkoop has announced that Slovakia will deploy more troops to southern Afghanistan as a contribution to the NATO mission there. The minister made his remarks following talks with his Slovakian counterpart Jaroslav Baska in Bratislava.

In the coming months, more than 50 Slovakian soldiers will be sent to the Afghan province of Uruzgan to support the Dutch troops already stationed there. This number will be increased to 280 by 2010.

A few dozen Slovakian soldiers will be stationed at the international ISAF base in the province of Kandahar, which borders on Uruzgan.
