GRONINGEN - A 34-year-old man from Groningen has confessed to throwing a burning toilet roll onto the pitch of the Euroborg football stadium in Groningen, shortly before the Groningen-Ajax match began on 13 April.

Many people threw toilet rolls onto the pitch. But some threw lighted rolls, which then started a fire in the stands. In the scramble to avoid the flames, 22 people were injured and the game was postponed.

Police say that the man from Groningen, who is now free on bail, is suspected of arson and public vandalism, but that his contribution to the fire is not yet known.

This is the second arrest in the case. Shortly after the fire broke out, police arrested a 19-year-old man, also from
Groningen.
