Amsterdam Schiphol Airport last year welcomed a record number of 49.8 million passengers, an increase of 10.2 percent compared to 2010, when 45.2 million passengers used the airport.

These figures were announced by CEO Jos Nijhuis of the Schiphol Group during the airport’s New Year’s Day reception.

At 1.5 million tons, freight volume remained about the same. However, the number of flights increased by 8.8 percent from 386,319 to 420,245.

Schiphol’s share of the European market also increased: “In terms of passenger numbers Schiphol once again ranks fourth in Europe,” Mr Nijhuis said.
