THE NETHERLANDS - The number of fatal road accidents continues to drop in The Netherlands.

In 2007, 791 people were killed in traffic incidents, 20 less than in 2006.

The drop has mainly been among people in their forties and sixties. The number of fatalities among teenagers and twenty-year-olds, mainly riding mopeds, has slightly increased.

In recent decades, traffic in the Netherlands has become much safer.

In the 1970s more than three thousand people died in road accidents per year. In 2000 the figure was 1100. Last year was the first time this figure was below 800.
