THE NETHERLANDS - MP Rita Verdonk has cancelled a number of party meetings scheduled for the coming weeks, because she is concerned about her security.

The leader of the political movement Proud of the Netherlands told television talkshow hosts Andries Knevel and Tijs van den Brink that her security team had been reduced from six bodyguards to two.

The National Anti-Terrorism Coordinator Tjibbe Joustra confirms that security measures for the MP have changed. He says the level of threat to Verdonk has been reassessed.

On her website, Verdonk has called for donations to pay for her security.
