Pro-Turkish The Hague rally without incident

Some 500 Turks have staged a pro-Turkish rally in The Hague amid tight security in view of last week’s clashes with Kurds in Amsterdam.

Prior to the march, the organisers said they were expecting up to 4,000 people. Those who did turn out included many women and children, according to a police spokesperson.

The demonstration passed off without incident. Last Sunday, several Kurdish bystanders were attacked following a pro-Turkish demonstration in Amsterdam.

The police say they had taken steps prior to today’s protests in The Hague to avoid a repeat. Today’s rally was watched by some 200 riot police but they were wearing minimal gear and no helmet in a bid to provoke no aggression.
