Princess Mabel, the wife of Queen Beatrix’s second son Friso, probably worked as an agent and informant for the BVD, the predecessor of today’s national intelligence service AIVD.

On its website, current affairs magazine HP/De Tijd quotes from the memoirs of former BVD agent Frits Hoekstra. He writes that Mabel Wisse Smit worked for the BVD in the 1990s at the time of the negotiations which led to the Daytona agreements, the peace treaty that ended the Bosnian war.

At the time, Princess Mabel was involved in a relationship with then Bosnian foreign minister Mohammed Sacirbey who played an important role in the negotiations.
