LELYSTAD – Police found a large number of weapons in a home on the Klip in Lelystad on Friday morning. The arsenal included rifles, pistols, revolvers, automatic weapons, various types of knives and munitions.

The residents of the address, a man and woman both aged 57, were arrested.

After an anonymous tip officers found the enormous collection of weapons and munitions in the home. The resident has a permit for five weapons, though police found a total of 60 in the home, along with ammunition. Nearly all the firearms, ammunition and other weapons were easily accessible to the couple's 16-year-old son.

The arsenal also contained several extremely dangerous automatic machine guns, including an UZI and a Scorpion. It is not even possible to get a permit for these weapons in the Netherlands.

The woman was released after questioning, the man is still being held. The police say that it looks as if the man's hobby simply got out of hand. All the weapons have been confiscated and are being destroyed.
