Peru’s Public Prosecutor has been ordered to reconsider the charges is has brought against Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, who is accused of killing Peruvian student Stephany Flores in his Lima hotel room on 30 May 2010.

At the first public hearing, on 12 September 2011, Mr Van der Sloot was charged with murder and robbery. The Public Prosecutor called for a 30-year jail sentence and damages of 50,000 euros.

The lawyer for the victim’s family said the charges should not be “murder followed by robbery” but “robbery followed by murder”, which carries a life sentence. He also rejected the 50,000 euro compensation as insufficient.

The judge hearing the case has instructed the Public Prosecutor to reformulate the charges, which will delay the trial.

By December, Mr Van der Sloot will have been held on remand for the maximum 18 months allowed under Peruvian law. This could mean he will be released and await the remainder of his trial as a free person. The Public Prosecutor, however, can request an extension of his pre-trial detention.

I asked the FBI why it is that they have not yet disclosed that Gary Giordano was in Aruba when Holloway went missing as well as Gardner. They have not responded but I have friends that work for the FBI and I have been informed that it is so. I think that the death of Flores is an FB I sting either gone badly or as planned.
