Opposition calls for debate on cuts

Almost the whole of the opposition has called for an emergency debate on government plans which will adversely affect vulnerable groups in society.

The government is planning a number of measures affecting young people, the chronically ill and disabled people.

On Tuesday, Labour Party leader Job Cohen criticised planned cuts in job placements for people with disabilities, facilities for young people with disabilities and personal budgets for care for the chronically ill.

The coalition parties VVD and Christian Democrats and the Freedom Party which supports the minority cabinet in parliament want to postpone the debate until the effects of the measures can be seen.

Nevertherless there is enough support from MPs for an emergency debate. It is uncertain when it will be held.
