No plans to increase Syrian refugee quota: minister

The Netherlands has no plans to admit more refugees from Syria than already agreed, the Telegraaf quotes junior justice minister Fred Teeven as saying.

The Netherlands is currently committed to accepting 50 Syrian refugees this year and 200 in 2014, the Telegraaf says. This will only be altered if the situation in Syria changes drastically.

Labour, Socialist and D66 parliamentarians say this is now the case, but Teevens disagrees, the paper says.

'We are not going to let in people on a massive scale,' Teeven is quoted as saying. 'The foreign affairs minister and I monitor the situation on a daily basis and have not closed our eyes to developments. But no change of plan is yet necessary.'

The Netherlands has allocated €4m from the aid budget to help care for Syrian refugees in the region, the Volkskrant said.
