THE NETHERLANDS - The Dutch parliament is to hold a new emergency debate on the issue of 770 illegal Chinese immigrants who believed they would be eligible for a general amnesty because of rumours that Crown Prince Willem-Alexander was about to ascend the throne.

They reported to the authorities in recent weeks, thinking it was now safe to apply for residence permits. Around 300 of these people have since gone back into hiding.

Deputy Justice Minister Nebahat Albayrak says the remaining 470 are being kept under surveillance, but rejected suggestions they should be taken into custody.
