New Dutch oeuvre prize for cartoonists

A cartoonist who has made an important contribution to Dutch culture will stand to win EUR 25,000.

The Hague – A new annual prize for cartoonists has been set up, announced the Dutch Minister of Culture Ronald Plasterk Monday.

The Marten Toonder Prize is an oeuvre prize worth EUR 25,000 which will be awarded to a cartoonist who has made an important contribution to Dutch culture.

The prize is named after one of the Netherlands' most famous cartoonists Marten Toonder (1912 - 2005). His most famous characters are Olivier B Bommel and Tom Poes.

The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture will put together a committee to decide who the first recipient of the prize will be. The prize will be presented annually in March.
