Living on the water will help solve the country’s problem with rising water levels.

THE NETHERLANDS - A Dutch organisation working to stimulate innovation in housing and construction has called for the government to promote living on the water as a way to help solve The Netherlands' problem with rising water levels.

The Steering Committee for Experiments in Public Housing (SEV) says floating houses and houses built on concrete pillars are ideal for areas that experience regular flooding.

The organisation, which operates with the support of the ministry of housing, spatial planning and the environment, says living on the water could also help solve the chronic housing shortage in Dutch cities.
