Moroccan university offers Dutch lessons

The University of Casablanca is offering Dutch classes to students who want to increase their chances of getting a job.

Casablanca – One hundred Moroccan students have signed up for Dutch classes offered University of Casablanca

Out of the 100, 30 took part in a trial Dutch course last year while the remaining have signed up for a beginner’s course.

The University of Casablanca is the first academic institution in an Arab country to offer free Dutch lessons to interested students.

Although Dutch lessons are also available in the Egyptian and Syrian capitals of Cairo and Damascus, they are not offered by an institution.

Students who have enrolled for the Dutch classes will be taught by a Flemish teacher.

The teachers at Casablanca University said there is considerable demand for Dutch.

Students want to learn Dutch to increase their chances of getting a job.

Youth unemployment in Morocco is high and more so among those who are highly educated.

According to the teachers, learning Dutch may lead to more work opportunities for students in tourist sector call centres.
