More than 50 manhole covers have been stolen in the past week in a town in Limburg.

LIMBURG – More than 50 manhole covers have been stolen in the past week in the Susteren town of Limburg.

Police suspect the thieves dress as council workers when committing the robberies in the  day or at night. The covers are then sold as scrap metal.

Susteren is not alone in reporting the recent spate of missing manhole covers. Dozens of other manhole covers have been stolen in previous weeks in the southern town of Oss, and the northern towns of Zaanstad, Enkhuizen and Bedum.

Two teenagers arrested for the thefts in Bedum said they stole the covers because they were bored.
