DE BILT – Meteorological institute KNMI issued a weather alert at 5 am on Wednesday because of extreme wind gusts that could cause serious damage.

KNMI expects wind gusts of around 110 km/hr in the course of the morning and midday. The coastal provinces in particular could see gusts of up to 120 km/hr. The wind should subside somewhat later in the evening and in the evening.

The KNMI did not feel a weather alert was necessary on Tuesday. The critical wind speed of 100 km/hr was only exceeded in the coastal areas.

A spokesperson says the KNMI decided to issue the alert on Wednesday because wind speeds inland are also expected to exceed this limit.
