Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch national accused of murdering a Peruvian woman, has brought charges against the lawyer he was assigned by the Peruvian authorities during police questioning in the capital Lima. His current lawyer says the Peruvian lawyer was presented as a legal aid counsel but is not registered as such, according to US Fox News station.

Mr van der Sloot confessed to murdering Stephany Flores, 21, during the police questioning. He later withdrew his statement saying he had been under pressure. Mr Van der Sloot and his lawyer, Máximo Altez, have also accused the police chief who led the questioning.

Ms Flores was killed in late May in a hotel in the Peruvian capital Lima, where Mr Van der Sloot had a room. After the murder, he fled to Chile, where he was arrested. Chile later extradited him to Peru, where he is currently being held.

Mr Van der Sloot remains the main suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, the US teenager who went missing in Aruba in 2005. The US state of Alabama has accused Mr Van der Sloot of blackmailing her mother. He allegedly offered to tell her where her daughter’s body was if she paid him 250,000 dollars.
