Annually, over the autumn holidays, the international children's arts festival ‘De Betovering' (The Enchantment) graces The Hague.

From the 14th to the 23rd of October 2011, children between the ages of 2 and 14 years will be treated to some 200 performances and workshops at 40 different locations in The Hague.

The festival opens spectacularly with two international productions. The interactive Italian dance performance Kindur is about the adventurous life of sheep in Iceland. In Play of Forces from the German company HELIOS Theater we see the struggle of a man to find his place between earth and sky; dreaming about flying and the physical principles of gravity. The Enchantment also has some impressive premieres: the magical comedy Witte Reus by Stella Den Haag; Kalejdoskop where the audience is sent on an expedition into a labyrinth, plus the contemporary dance fairy tale Pinocchio.

Other highlights for which language isn't an issue include: Er was eens..., a dance discovery for ages 1 and up or spy on young children running a mature household in the installation Volwassen Kinderen.

The most enchanting children's dance and theatre performances of both Dutch and international origin, will be brought to The Hague for ten days of dazzling culture. Performances include puppet shows, dance, music and film. Professional artists will give workshops where children can try their hand at dance, music, filmmaking, painting, architecture, theatre and much more. As part of a number of these workshops, participants will visit a museum or gallery such as the Gemeentemuseum, to look at the artwork there. Festival De Betovering is the result of a unique cooperation between a number of cultural organisations in The Hague.

Theater aan het Spui will provide refreshments and is transformed into a huge Green Children's City with between 12.00 and 17.00 pm a rolling programme of workshops and installations. Buy building-blocks for your own home, shop or garden. Earn coins by helping to create a park or cleaning the city. Or learn how to make a working light out of ping-pong balls. Curious? Come build this city!
