Holland recycles more car wrecks

Nearly all the scrap from wrecked cars was recycled last year. 95.3 percent of the material from 249,0008 wrecks was re-used rather than dumped. Auto Recycling Nederland reports that, although this is more than the previous year, it still doesn't approach the legal norm which is due to go into force in the Netherlands in 2015.

The increase is mainly due to the fact that, since last year, it has become possible to incinerate more parts in special incinerators. Incineration counts as an alternative to dumping and therefore as recycling.

The aim is to re-use at least 95 percent of the material from wrecks with no more than ten percent incinerated "with energy reclamation". The latter figure still stands at 12 percent.
