THE NETHERLANDS - More than 2,000 would-be holiday-makers who booked a trip to Turkey via Sun Travel have had their holidays cancelled

According to SGR, a foundation which insures passengers against bankruptcy of travel agents, the Maastricht-based group has run into major financial problems and is unable to pay hotel and airline bills.

The managing director of SGR has confirmed that Sun Travel has officially declared its bankruptcy to the foundation.

Clients can apply to SGR to get their money back if the holiday was booked directly from Sun Travel. SGR is trying to ensure that holiday-makers who are already in Turkey can remain there until the end of their planned vacation.
