Former Croatian Serb rebel leader Goran Hadzic, will make a first appearance before the UN's war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia Monday, the tribunal's registrar said.

"The initial appearance (of Hadzic) will be led by Mr (Judge) O-Gon Kwon on Monday at four-o-clock in courtroom one," said the tribunal registrar John Hocking.

Hadzic, 52, was being provided with the best possible medical care and facilities to prepare his defence, Hocking told reporters at the headquarters of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Hadzic arrived in the Netherlands by plane earlier Friday after Serbian Justice Minister Snezana Malovic signed an official order authorising his transfer to The Hague tribunal.

He faces 14 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the 1991-95 Croatian war.

Hadzic was arrested Wednesday in the idyllic mountain region of Fruska Gora near the northern city of Novi Sad after seven years on the run, the last of the 161 persons indicted by the ICTY to be apprehended.

Hadzic arrived in the Netherlands at around 2:30 pm (1230 GMT) from Belgrade and was taken to the tribunal's prison by road.
