AMSTERDAM - Gay men from the Dutch Antilles have at the last minute decided to join the annual Gay Pride canal parade on Saturday.

Fearing they would be recognised on television, many gay Antilleans had been reluctant to participate.

They have been persuaded by the event's organisers, who will put their boat close to the one carrying Culture Minister Ronald Plasterk and Amsterdam Mayor Job Cohen. The move is intended to show the Antillean government that the Dutch authorities support the Antilles' gay and lesbian community.
