Serious Request, an annual fundraising event organised by Dutch public radio station 3FM and the Red Cross has begun in Eindhoven. In the week leading up to Christmas, three DJs are locked in a transparent studio without food and play requests for money around the clock.

This year, Queen Beatrix's sister, Princess Margriet who became honorary member of the Red Cross last week locked the door of the "Glass House". The DJs end their fast on Christmas Eve.

During the seventh edition of Serious Request, money is being collected to help AIDS orphans in Africa. The idea has spread to other European cities and there is also a Glass House in Africa.
