Police officers can use the cameras to record violent behaviour of partygoers and hopefully deter aggressive behaviour.

FRIESLAND -- Frisian police plan to send camera-equipped officers out on patrol with the emergency services during the 2009 New Year celebrations.

The move comes in response to incidents during the last celebrations, when fire service crews in several Friesian boroughs were pelted with stones, bottles and firebombs.

Officers in Friesland will use the cameras to record aggressive or violent behaviour against emergency service workers, thus obtaining evidence to help them track down the perpetrators.

The mayors of the councils involved are now planning an enquiry to determine whether such a plan is legally viable.
