Nijmegen - The Four Day Festival is kicking off today in the Dutch city of Nijmegen. The event, now in its fortieth year, goes on for seven days and nights, coinciding with the annual Four Day Marches.

Thirty stages around the city will host more than 500 artists, including Marike Jager and Wolter Kroes, who are performing during the opening day.

Other performers include Frank Boeijen, De Staat and Racoon. The organisers expect some 1.4 million will attend the festival, without joining the march.

Both events, the festival and the march, end on Saturday 24 July.
