AMSERSFOORT - People in the vicinity of Amersfoort may be lucky enough to witness a rare sight on Monday: a flying car. The A1 motorway around Amersfoort will be used to test the Personal Air and Land Vehicle (PAL-V), a car that can not only utilise the asphalt but can also take to the air.

The PAL-V is a combination of a three-wheeled car and a gyrocopter, a sort of personal helicopter.

In auto mode, the vehicle responds like a car but takes corners like a motorbike.

Transport Minister Camiel Eurlings wants to investigate whether the vehicle could offer a solution to the Netherlands' chronic traffic problems.
