Fire destroys medieval Dutch farmhouse

One of the oldest farmhouses in Europe, built in 1376, has been totally destroyed by fire. The wooden construction used in the building, in the tiny village of Anderen near Assen in the north of the Netherlands, is said to have been unique.

The police say the cause of the blaze is as yet a mystery. The residents of the medieval farmhouse managed to get out in time after the fire took hold on Thursday morning. Three months ago, an adjacent farmhouse also went up in flames. The cause of that fire has still not been identified.
