RIJSWIJK – The Dutch have made far fewer holiday plans for 2008 than in previous years. This emerges from the Ongoing Holiday Survey, according to professional journal Reisrevue.

The survey indicates that only 72 percent of the Dutch have holiday plans for the coming summer. In January last year this figure was 4 percentage points higher. The decline will primarily affect the domestic tourism sector. The number of holidays planned for within the Netherlands is no less than 9 percent lower than last year.

The poor summer weather in 2007 is partly to blame, say the researchers. The pressure on purchasing power seems also to be a factor.
