Dutch worse off in 2011

Dutch people will have less to spend in 2011, according to the Netherlands’ National Institute for Family Finance Information Nibud. In particular parents with children in day care will be worse off, as will many pensioners.

Almost everyone in the Netherlands will see their pay rise in 2011 compared to 2010. But due to rising prices, most people will still be left with less money in the bank. People on low incomes will have just a couple of euros less to spend a month, while for those on higher incomes it will be around 30 euros.

A cut in the tax bonus for day care will hit parents with children in day care. A couple with two children in day care three days a week and a gross joint income of 60,000 euros will be 80 euros a month worse off in 2011, says Nibud.
