Dutch school supervisor stabbed with scissors

A schoolboy aged 16 has been detained by police in the central Dutch city of Amersfoort on suspicion of stabbing a school supervisor. The 54-year-old was slightly injured when he was stabbed with a pair of scissors.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the teenager's parents turned up for a talk with the supervisor about the boy's earlier behaviour. He had misbehaved during a school outing on Tuesday. The boy reportedly did not know that his parents had been invited to discuss him and turned against the supervisor when he found out.

Stabbing incidents at Dutch schools are rare, partly because many schools have banned pupils from carrying knives and similar objects, with some schools even installing electronic detection gates. A shooting incident at a school in The Hague in 2004, where a teacher was killed by an angry teenager, made secondary schools more aware of the risks of pupils carrying weapons.
