THE NETHERLANDS - Police statistics show the number of threats made against politicians in the Netherlands is continuing to increase.

The team in charge of investigating such threats says 225 reports were made to the police in the first six months of this year.

Most of the threats were hoaxes, often made by youngsters via e-mail from school.

Other threats, such as letters containing powder or bullets, come from people drawn from all sections of society. Geert Wilders, leader of the right-wing Freedom Party, is the most threatened politician.
