ROTTERDAM -- A Rotterdam police sergeant who allegedly doubled as a spy for the Moroccan secret service has been dismissed.

The Rotterdam police corps dismissed the sergeant following a tip-off received from the Dutch national security service.

Following an internal investigation, the Rotterdam police dismissed him for "serious dereliction of duty". The sergeant is accused of passing police information on to the Moroccan secrete service.

The Public Prosecutors Office says it will not prosecute the former police officer because of insufficient evidence.
