Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst does not agree that salaries of top executives in housing and public transport sector should stay below the Balkenende norm.

THE HAGUE – Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst has rejected calls to cap more semi-public top salaries.

The minister said she did not support calls by MPs for tighter restrictions on executive pay packets in some public sector companies.
The coalition parties want the salaries of housing corporation and public transport executives to stay below the Balkenende norm of EUR 176,000.

The minister argues that housing corporation salaries need to be fixed in a free market while local municipalities should determine the cap on executive salaries in public transport sector.

The minister and coalition parties have agreed to limit salaries of top executives at nursing homes and home care companies.
