Dutch increasingly date on the internet

Dutch people increasingly find their partners on the internet.

Over the past ten years, restaurants, bars, discos and holidays have lost much of their former prominent role in finding suitable partners. However, they are still the most important locations to meet potential partners in person.

These are the main conclusions of a report published by Statistics Netherlands on Wednesday. Internet did not play any role whatsoever before 2000, but in the following years eight percent of all people in relationships found their significant other via dating sites or social networks.

Before the turn of the millennium, nearly half of all Dutch people found their partners in bars and discos or while on holiday, after 2000 that figure dropped to 35 percent.

Other favourite places for Dutch people to meet their better halves are schools, sports clubs, churches, at work or through friends.
