Dutch drugs baron ordered to pay 800,000 euros

A court in Breda has ruled drugs baron Eddy S. must pay almost 800,000 euros of his criminal profits to the state. The drugs baron was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2003. The Public Prosecutor had demanded the payment of more than 5 million euros.

The 61-year-old convict used to head the so-called York gang in Amsterdam at the end of the 1990s. He is believed to have made a fortune exporting synthetic drugs to the United States, Great Britain and Israel and importing cocaine from South-America.

The reason the court has not demanded the full amount is because the judge ruled there was not enough evidence to support suspicions that the man was involved in an Israel gang busted in 1996. The court ruled that Eddy S. only could have earned 4,000,000 euros buying and selling drugs in Amsterdam. In addition the length of time since sentencing also played a role in the decision.

Eddy S. announced immediately after the hearing that he would appeal the decision.

well many a weird thing is worth something in this country!!
For example tax system that taxes prostitution says it all.....so the illogical selective rules of who pays what and when is a complete contradiction.....a fine on a 62 year old bloke who will spend his golden years in prison is kind of another example, but a government who exploits women (prostitution) and kicks the boot in further by charging high taxes....er pimping??? yeah that is really morale and just....blleuuuugh mind set

Don't worry; after the fine and the jail time, I'm sure the Belastingdienst will be along for their 52% of the 5 million as soon as he walks out of the prison doors.

What a joke, he should have all his earnings from criminal activities taken away from him not just a portion! Drug trafficking in this country is obviously worth it!
