A councillor on Waalwijk District Council in the south of The Netherlands has resigned after a family of refugees from Liberia were forced out of their home in Waspik after being terrorised by youths.

Green Left councillor, Ellie Baggerman, who was in charge of youth employment and immigration policy stood down following the publication of a critical report on the affair by the Forum multicultural institute.

The report said the youths who were terrorising the refugee family were dealt with far too late, and that the family had not been properly protected. Waalwijk Council has admitted that it failed the family and the mayor has offered them his apologies.
