Former speed skater Jan Bos has announced he will make an attempt to break the world bicycle speed record.

Together with a team of students from the Delft University of Technology and the VU University Amsterdam, the former Olympic champion is busy training for the attack on the world speed record which will take place next summer.

The current world record is 133 kilometres per hour. Last summer the Delft and Amsterdam students – without Jan Bos – attained a speed of 129 kph. The four-man team and their special bike will be presented to the public on Thursday. It will be their second attempt at breaking the world bicycle speed record.

The team’s latest attempt will take place in the US state of Nevada. The Dutch team wants to break both the maximum speed record and the hour record which is currently 92 kilometres. The record attempt involves a human-powered bicycle without any assistance of a motorised vehicle.
