The Somali man is allegedly involved in supporting the international jihad and is wanted for terrorism in the US.

The Hague – A Somali man wanted for terrorism in the United States has been arrested at a Dutch asylum-seeker centre, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

"According to American investigators, he is involved in supporting the international jihad," the Dutch prosecution service said in a statement which did not name the suspect.

"He is alleged to have financed the acquisition of weapons for terrorists, and to have helped others in 2007 and 2008 to travel to Somalia where they took part in a jihad."

One of them allegedly used a truckload of explosives to carry out a suicide attack in Puntland in northeastern Somalia in October 2008.

The 43-year-old was arrested at an asylum centre in Dronten in the northern Netherlands on Sunday. The United States has asked for his extradition.

The man had previously been resident in Minneapolis in the United States. He is believed to have been in the Netherlands since December 2008.

"He was placed in detention for 60 days by a judge today (Wednesday)," said the statement.
