The Dutch-Belgian bid came third in Thursday’s election of the host country for the 2018 World Cup. The Netherlands and Belgium won two votes, the Spanish-Portuguese bid seven and Russia 13, giving them a clear majority among the 22 members of FIFA’s executive committee.

England dropped out of the race in the First round of voting in which it received only two votes compared to four for the Netherlands and Belgium, seven for Spain and Portugal and nine for Russia. Surprisingly, the Dutch-Belgian bid in the second round received two votes less than in the first.
