THE NETHERLANDS - The Dutch victim support organisation has announced plans to improve the assistance given to the families of murder victims.

The organisation is going to bring in case managers to help the next of kin cope with all kinds of practical and legal matters.

The Victim Support group says those closest to the victims of murder or manslaughter often find themselves confronted with all kinds of problems in the aftermath of the crime.

Problems can range from financial difficulties associated with the cost of a funeral to questions about a coroner's report or the problems associated with their home being sealed off as a crime scene.

The first case managers are due to start work at the end of the year.
