The Netherlands - Airline pilots are to take passenger-friendly action at various European airports on Monday in a campaign for improved working hours and rest periods.

The pilots plan to draw attention to their claims by handing out alternative boarding cards to passengers.

According to the European pilots' union dangerous situations regularly arise because pilots have to work for too long without rests. The union says twelve-hour night flights are not unusual.

Dutch airline KLM says it is not concerned in the action because it always complies strictly to labour agreements.

However, the Association of Dutch Airline Pilots says this is by no means true of all European airlines, which also make frequent use of Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.
