Dutch football club AZ on Thursday got through to the group phase of the Europa League by decisively beating Norwegian club Aalesunds FK 6-0 in a home game in the last qualifying round. Only last week the AZ squad, led by coach Gertjan Verbeek, lost the away game in Norway 2-1.

Pontus Wernbloom and Jozy Altidore gave AZ a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of the match. After half time, AZ finished the job via goals by Maarten Martens, again Altidore, Brett Holman and a goal scored from a penalty taken by Niklas Moisander.

PSV also made it to the group phase. Coach Fred Rutten’s team scored a solid 5-0 victory over their Austrian opponents SV Ried. The away game one week ago had ended in a 0-0 draw.

The five goals by Ola Toivonen, Jeremain Lens, Georginio Wijnaldum, Zakaria Labyad and Kevin Strootman were all made after half time. PSV will learn on Friday which teams it will be facing in the group phase.
