Favourites Brazil have been dumped out of the World Cup by a lucky Holland, who came from a goal down to beat them 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

Five-times champions Brazil looked firmly in control in the first half, with Robinho giving them a lead in only the 10th minute, two minutes after having a goal ruled offside.

The tide turned in the 53rd minute when Felipe Melo deflected a Wesley Sneijder free kick into his own net.

Sneijder scored the winner in the 68th minute when he headed home from a corner. Brazil's problems were compounded when Felipe Melo got sent off five minutes later for stamping on the Dutch winger Arjen Robben.

In the semi-finals Holland will meet the winners of Friday's quarter-final in Johannesburg between Uruguay and Ghana.
