Transport minister to launch study on how feasible it is to establish direct train routes between the two cities.

3 April 2008
THE HAGUE – A parliamentary majority has asked transport minister Camiel Eurlings to launch a feasibility study of establishing a direct train link between the central Dutch city of Utrecht and Breda in the south.

At the moment, train passengers going from Utrecht, the country’s major train nerve centre, to Breda have to change at Rotterdam or Den Bosch.

In the past, a direct line has been considered too expensive but, now the A27 is being broadened, MPs think it would be relatively cheap to construct a line next to the improved motorway. If the project is given the go-ahead, it will be at least another decade before the first direct trains connect Utrecht with Breda.
