Situation at Schiphol airport improved - Dutch train traffic still disrupted

The situation at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport - which has been battling cancellations and delays - has improved somewhat despite the continuing wintry weather.

A spokeswoman said "We are handling more flights and all necessary runways are available. She said more flights would be arriving and departing compared to earlier this weekend. "Things are going quite well, considering the weather". Nevertheless, travellers still have to take cancellations and delays into account. "We are advising people whose flights have been cancelled to call their airline before travelling to the airport."

However, the city of Utrecht, the main hub in the national railway system, can still not be reached by train. It is not clear how long these disruptions are going to last. Part of the problem is several broken trains at a number of platforms at Utrecht Central Station. The national railway company NS says it is working hard to resolve the disruptions and that train service from Utrecht Central Station may resume later on Sunday afternoon.
