AMSTERDAM – Six airport workers, along with two accomplices, have been arrested at Schiphol Airport for smuggling 83 kilograms of cocaine into the Netherlands.

The six airport workers, employed by service companies that unload and fuel airplanes, helped to spot cocaine-filled suitcases marked with secret markings and smuggled them out of the airport's high-security area.

The cocaine comes from South America.

When the homes of the eight suspects, seven men and one woman all living near the airport, were searched, police found EUR 150,000 in cash.

The police made the arrest after beginning their investigation just under a year ago.
