ROTTERDAM - Representatives of 50 world ports have gathered at a conference in Rotterdam in the Netherlands to talk about ways to reduce air pollution. Their goal is to come to a joint approach in reducing CO2 emission.

Environmental organisations have urged participants to put forward ideas that can be put into action soon. They pointed out that 60,000 ships in international waters are responsible for between two and five percent of global CO2 emissions.

Among the participants in Rotterdam are representatives from New York, Jakarta and Singapore. There are no delegates from China, even though it houses the seven biggest port cities in the world.
