Romania allowing Dutch lorries through border

A Dutch lorry which since Friday evening had been held at the Romanian border with a consignment of flowering bulbs, plants and seeds has been allowed to enter the country, says the TLN Dutch transport and logistics organisation.

Romania has been refusing to allow about half a dozen Dutch lorries to deliver to addresses in the country, saying that the plant products they were carrying might be infected with a bacterium. Romania’s agriculture ministry says tests carried out on samples of the shipments have revealed no bacterial infection.

Some Dutch politicians have accused the Romanian government of manufacturing problems at the border in retaliation for the The Hague’s opposition to Romania’s bid to join the EU border-free Schengen zone.
